Celebrating A Decade of the Latham Whitehurst Nature Park

Latham-Whitehurst Nature Park was first opened to visitors in 2011. Located in a quiet eastern section of the town of New Bern, the park is a popular destination for wildlife fans of all varieties, including hikers, kayakers, birdwatchers, and fishermen.

It is part of the Coastal Land Trust, conserving lands with scenic, recreational, historic and/or ecological value. Our mission is to enrich the coastal communities of our state through conservation of natural areas and working landscapes, education, and the promotion of good land stewardship.

It is also home to a number of memorial benchmarks, paying tribute to those in ENC who worked to make and keep the park a local tradition. The nature trailsrange from .16 miles to .8 miles long, and can be combined for a longer trek through the scenic Craven County woods. You can also fish, which carries on a storied NC tradition.
