Fishing Report 11-29-23

Ok it’s a little cold outside.  The fish may be a little sluggish but they will get hungry and if you are home in your nice warm house they will eat without you.

Fresh water folks, it’s fall crappie season.  The crappie are hitting on minnows, jigs and soft plastics.  The bass are good on deep diving crank baits, finesse baits, and spinner baits with Colorado blades.  The bream are hitting on nightcrawlers and crickets.  The catfish are loading up for winter, so stink baits, chicken livers and minnows are your best bet, along with cut baits.

Saltwater fishing is really good for speckled trout on mirror lures, gulp, and mud minnows.  The drum are hitting on everything.  But the real winner in yucky weather are the striped bass.  They have many names.  Stripers, Rock fish and the I don’t see any game warden fish.  Best baits are plastic flukes, soft plastics, minnows, and jerk baits.  They are big and yummy.  Check your local waters for regulations and creel limits.

Good fishing.  (Go ahead and stay home if you want I’ll catch your fish for you…….signed, the Captain.)

The saltwater fishing is great right now. Surf fishermen are catching red drum and bluefish. The piers are catching spots, croakers, sea mullet, flounder, and sheepshead.  Trolling inshore has been producing plenty of Spanish mackerel.  Off shore the bottom fishing has been good on grouper, red and silver snapper and black sea bass.  Still plenty of dolphin aka mahi mahi, kings, and wahoo.

Fresh water fishing is good early morning and in the evening – one angler caught 175 bluegills on 30 nightrawlers.  Plus the bass are hitting soft plastics baits and whopper ploppers.

Take a kid fishing, and skip work to go. Don’t forget to pick up your trash.

It’s October, the best month of the year to go fishing.  Everything is biting, well, except for Cobia.

Salt water. The jumbo spots are here. Get some blood worms, some shrimp or even a sabiki rig. Go catch the spots and fry them up. Every other salt water fish is gorging for winter.

Fresh water fishing – the bass are hitting.  Bluegill hitting, crappie hitting, catfish hitting, striped bass hitting. Yellow perch, I never catch them, so who knows?!

Just go fishing today – skip work, call in sick. Take a kid fishing and remember to pick up your trash.
