Today’s Good News 10-24-22

This is kind of like that friend who moved to L.A. to be an actor and failed.  But it’s good, because then they found their real calling. A breeder in Washington state paid $10,000 for a purebred Lab named Duke, and hoped he’d be a good show dog someday. But she entered him in some competitions, and every time a judge touched him, he’d just roll over and want them to rub his belly. So he couldn’t hack it as a show dog and flamed out.  But it turns out he’s much better at something else anyway. He now works for the Oregon Department of Human Services as a COMFORT dog for kids. (Here’s a photo.)……………..A high school senior named Bella Rasmussen just became the first girl in California state history to score two touchdowns in a varsity football game.  She’s a running back, and also plays defensive end……..And finally…………….

In 2013, an Irish guy named Shane Gaffney was in New York and didn’t have enough to cover his cab fare. Gaffney owns a bar in Dublin, and offered free beer in exchange for his ride. The men determined the cab ride was worth about two pints of Guinness at the 2013 exchange rate between the dollar and the euro, so Gaffney wrote cabbie John McDonagh an IOU promising two pints at the Gaffney and Son Pub in Dublin. And nine years later, the cabbie just took him up on it.
