An 18-year-old in England named Harvey Smith was diagnosed with high-functioning autism two years ago, and a friend told him he’d never be a doctor like he wanted to. But he was inspired to keep pursuing it after watching the show “The Good Doctor” about a surgeon with autism. Smith has now received an offer to study medicine at the University of East Anglia later this year, taking him closer to his aim of being a cardiothoracic or trauma surgeon. He’s even agreed to return to his school and help future students to navigate the medical degree application process.
