An Arizona elementary school welcomed kids back this past week with some help from a tortoise named Bowser, like the “Super Mario” character. The Sierra Vista Police Department recently made him an honorary cop, and they brought him in to inject some fun into the kids’ first day of school……… Delta employee Jill Hickey gave a frequent flyer one of her kidneys. Bruce Gamble had been flying out of Birmingham, AL, since the late 1980s for his consulting job, and got to know the crew there. Hickey overheard some Delta employees talking about ways to help Gamble, and she decided to get tested. The surgery happened in December, and they’re both doing great. Delta recently gave her an award for providing outstanding customer service…………….And finally………….
A brother and sister separated as kids finally found each other decades later. Donald Hefke is 81 and Marian Griffin is 80. Their mom had mental health issues, and their dad couldn’t take care of them, so they ended up in foster care as babies in the 1940s. He found out about her when he reached out to his foster care agency in 1963 and tracked down her adoptive parents, but they told him to get lost, so he did. Donald’s daughter spent 20 years trying to track Marian down and last year Marian’s son did a DNA test through Ancestry.com, so she got in touch. Donald is in Florida, and Marian lives in California, so they’ve talked on the phone a bunch, but haven’t been able to meet in person yet. She’s planning to fly to Florida to see him soon.
