A small Ohio school district set up a microphone in a hallway, and invited students to share something GOOD that’s happened to them recently. In a letter, his dad said “I got two pieces of shrapnel, one piece about two inches long, right in my stomach. But fortunately, I had this pair of heavy wool socks wadded up in there to dry, and I had two coats and a sweater, it just cut the skin on my stomach. A McDonald’s near Tampa recently threw a big retirement party for a longtime employee. 56-year-old Rich Wilber has Down syndrome, and he’d worked at the same location for 34 years. In the early 90s, Rich got a chance to work at McDonald’s under a program for special needs people. The coordinators warned not to be surprised if the gig only lasted a week, as the situation would require patience on both sides, and jobs weren’t always a match. Rich finished his shift, immediately wanted to return and continued to do so for more than 30 years. His manager who helped throw the party is 32 and wasn’t even born when he showed up for his first shift.
