On February 22nd, Rhode Island was buried under three feet of snow, and two employees at a gas station in Newport stayed on the job for nearly two straight days to help the people working through the storm. Krystal Waite, the manager, and assistant manager Anthony Lopez spent 36 hours at the store, as plow drivers and other essential workers began showing up. They opened the café to serve hot coffee and provide a safe place to take a break. One person who showed up was a nurse, who walked to the store after a 20-hour shift, and Waite and Lopez arranged for one of the plow drivers to give her a ride home.
