A cat in Australia somehow survived a 14-story fall from an apartment balcony. A neighbor found it meowing on a much lower floor. Veterinarians called it the highest fall they’ve ever seen. The all-volunteer group has replanted tens of thousands of native species, removed invasive plants, and monitored water and fish health. An off-duty NY firefighter is a hero after rescuing a woman trapped in her submerged car during a recent flash flooding event. Travis Langan spotted the vehicle filling with water, climbed on top, and smashed through the sunroof using his hands and a metal cup to free her. He pulled the woman to safety just as she was running out of air. He was later honored by city officials and credited with saving the woman’s life. (Here’s a news report.)
