Alexandra Adams just became the first doctor that was born both deaf and blind. She says the biggest obstacle was not her disabilities, which also include an immune disorder requiring the use of oxygen, but other people’s assumptions about what she could and couldn’t do. Alexandra uses adaptive technology like a Bluetooth-enabled stethoscope connected to her hearing aids, and other tools like radio aids, special bleeps or pagers that either vibrate or alarm via a personal phone. She now hopes to specialize in geriatric care.
