11-year-old Chance Blanton has a rare, terminal genetic condition, but it didn’t stop him from going surfing this past weekend at Atlantic Beach. Walker-Warburg syndrome affects the skeletal muscles, brain, and eyes, and few patients live past childhood. Mom Angela Wiles said surfing had always been a dream for Chance, and the Adaptive Surf Project, a Morehead City-based nonprofit that helps people with disabilities go surfing, made that dream come true. Wiles said she wants to use the experience to remind people to live life to the fullest because life is a gift and no one knows what day could be their last.
