A fisherman in Mexico was just found alive after spending 15 days trapped in complete darkness inside an underwater cave system. The rescue was especially tough because visibility was bad . . . and the man had to be guided back through the underwater cave using a rescuer’s air supply. Erasto Valdez stayed alive by drinking water he found in the chamber, and he spent his days sleeping and praying because he had no way of knowing whether it was day or night………………… The Sacramento Zoo is welcoming three “Hero Rats,” who are giant African pouched rats that were trained to detect things like tuberculosis, landmines, and trafficked wildlife. Visitors can see them in a new interactive habitat, and in demonstrations that showcase their scent-detection skills. The “Hero Rats” will also be part of the zoo’s education programs focused on illegal wildlife trafficking……………..And finally………..
A 20-year-old college student from Ohio helped erase more than $1.2 million in medical debt for strangers in his county. Ethan Khorana partnered with a nonprofit to raise a little over $10,000, which was used to buy and cancel debt for 1,148 people across his county. Ethan said he was surprised that such a relatively small amount of money could make such a big impact. The nonprofit he worked with was able to turn every dollar raised into $100 of medical debt cancellation.
