If you’ve been following the devastating flash floods in Nepal, you know it’s horrifying. But there’s a little light in the darkness. A principal evacuated 900 children from a school moments before a deadly wall of water struck their town. He heard warnings about a possible flood, and he says, “I decided I shouldn’t delay . . . even if the flood was not coming, it was just a matter of a single day’s classes. If we’d made the decision 10 minutes later, all of us, including the students and me, would not be able to speak to you today.” (Here’s a news report on him. It even shows the wreckage of the school.)…………….World War II vet Jimmy Hernandez just celebrated his 101st birthday by going skydiving. He made the jump alongside his son, Mark, and grandson, Santiago. It was actually his second skydive . . . his first jump was when he turned 100 last year. After landing, Jimmy said he hopes to return for another jump when he celebrates his 102nd birthday. (You can check out video here.) …………….And finally…………..
A mother in the Bronx recently lost nearly everything she owned in an apartment fire. The mom and her three kids moved into a hotel after the fire, and she was struggling with expenses and getting her kids ready for school. But she got an unexpected donation from a stranger who saw her story on the local news. After seeing the report, Scott Evans tracked down the mother through the news station and gave her $3,000 to help with food and school costs. The two have still never met in person . . . Scott said he simply wanted to help because he “was in a position to do so.”
