Hawaiian high school student Vera Wang won multiple science fair awards after discovering that fungi living on coconut husks can help break down plastic and sunscreen pollutants. She first designed a coconut-based ocean filter to capture microplastics and sunscreen from seawater, but once she started studying the microbes, she realized how helpful this could be for our oceans . . . and now has plans to show the rest of the world…………….. A British family just discovered they had a small fortune sitting in an old jewelry box. It turned out to be a 1930s Patek Philippe wristwatch that sold for nearly $80,000 at auction. At first, they were only thinking they’d get $6,000 or $7,000 for the watch, but a fierce bidding war pushed the final price almost to $80,000. Apparently, those watches are exceptionally rare, so it drew interest from collectors around the world……………..And finally………………
A man from the U.K., who spent more than a decade homeless, found a permanent home and national recognition after a video of him playing piano in a church in 2024 went viral. His name is Rhys Wynne-Jones, and he did an awesome rendition of “Bohemian Rhapsody”. (There are videos here and here.) Not only that . . . but Rhys has performed shows for charity, including a big one where he met Ronnie Wood, and he’s raised around $54,000 to help fight homelessness.
