A pelican in Florida came knocking for help, quite literally, using its beak . . . right on the front door of the NOAA Southeast Fisheries Science Center. The employees saw it had fishing line wrapped around its wing, a deeply embedded fishhook, and cactus spines stuck in its left foot, so they fixed it up. In a Facebook post, they said, “It must have known it was in good hands!”………….. Chef Andrew Griffin, who works at Deep Run Roadhouse in Virginia, was recently recognized for a simple act of kindness that made a big difference to one of the restaurant’s regulars. An elderly woman had showed up to a new location, but that place wasn’t open yet, so Andrew offered to drive her home, then on the way, he stopped to get the woman something to eat at another restaurant. Firefighters in the L.A. area saved Milo, a six-year-old dog, from a burning building earlier this month. No one else was home at the time . . . but someone reported hearing a barking dog inside. Firefighter Jessica Johnson found Milo under a table, unconscious. She said, “I barely could see him. I just kind of picked him up, brought him outside, and realized you could feel how limp he was.” They gave him oxygen, and about five minutes later, he regained consciousness. Today, Milo is recovering at home. He has a slight cough, but his vet expects him to be okay. (Here’s a local news video.)
