An indigenous alliance that helps protect more than two million hectares of Amazon rainforest just won the 2026 Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity, which comes with over $1 million in prize money. The alliance is based in Ecuador, and brings together indigenous people across Ecuador, Peru, and Colombia. The group has helped secure legal ownership of ancestral land and successfully helped cancel 52 illegal mining operations………… South Korean scientists have found a creative new use for used coffee grounds . . . turning them into building insulation. Researchers were able to convert used coffee grounds into a material that insulates as well as commercial foam products, and they said the coffee grounds break down much faster because it’s biodegradable. Since the world produces an estimated 8 million tons of coffee grounds every year, this could be an incredibly useful invention……………And finally………..
A group of student athletes from Everett High School in MA spotted a woman stranded in her car on a busy highway and they stepped in to help. The seven basketball players safely pushed the stalled vehicle off the road to a parking lot while refusing any money for the deed and accepting only hugs as payment. One of the students said it’s how they were taught to act at their school and that “it doesn’t matter if we don’t know the person or if we know the person, if you see somebody in trouble, go help them.”
