The Orange County Sheriff’s Office in Orlando added a new vehicle to their fleet . . . an ice cream truck. It’s a community outreach thing. They’re driving it around, handing out free ice cream to kids. They say the whole thing is paid for using money seized from drug dealers…………….Two recent Penn grads invented a special hat for premature babies that protects their hearing. It’s a beanie that goes over their ears and filters out frequencies higher than 500 hertz. Too many hospital sounds, like beeping, can have lasting effects. There’s also a cool feature that lets hospital staff play prerecorded messages from the baby’s parents……….And finally……………….
After a horse named Mouse went missing during a fishing trip in Wyoming last July, months passed with no sign of him and his owners feared the worst. But last month, a group of snowmobilers found Mouse alive, stranded in the mountains. Volunteers came together with a snow groomer, and a massive Snow Cat to reach Mouse, and they came up with a way to move the horse through miles of deep snow. They got a river raft, guided Mouse into it, and pulled it through the snow with the assembled equipment for miles across the mountains. Mouse is now safe and doing well, and the rescuers say it was a powerful example of what can happen when people come together with a shared goal.
