A former University of Wisconsin professor, Don Glickman, passed away in November at 94. Now he’s in the news after a bunch of his former students got a postcard from him. He gave his daughter a list of his favorite students and told her to send them all a card with his photo that said, “If you’re reading this I’m dead, and I really liked you.” He was a weird guy, apparently. His students say it was very on-brand. (Here’s a photo.)……….. In dairy news: A 25-year study found that eating cheese might prevent Alzheimer’s. People with a genetic risk were less likely to develop Alzheimer’s if they ate a lot of full-fat cheeses………And finally…………….
St. George, SC was hit by the same winter weather that ENC had recently. During the storm, Carlos Canales spotted a homeless man, Chris Brannon, and his dog, Mowgli, shivering in the freezing rain. Canales gave Brannon all the cash he had and returned later with hot food. Then Canales asked his Facebook community for help and the response was immediate. A retired judge’s assistant, and a council member tracked down Brannon and Mowgli, and funds were raised by the town to keep the pair in a hotel for the week. Brannon was overwhelmed by the kindness as he also received cash, warm meals, and supplies. He said “You guys have definitely given us another chance at life. This time here will make a difference throughout the whole year.” The motel manager even offered additional nights of shelter free of charge.
