A dancer living with ALS has returned to the stage through a cutting-edge technology that transforms thought into movement. Breanna Olson was able to “dance” again by using her brain to control the movements of a digital avatar. The technology aims to restore self-expression to people living with severe disabilities. Her mother was going through a medical emergency, and Alan was the first person to hold Chloe after delivering her. Alan is retired now, but he just flew across the country to see Chloe’s college graduation. Students at NC State’s Wilson College of Textiles were stunned when their commencement speaker revealed that their final year of student loans would be paid off in full. The gift is from businessman Anil Kochhar and his wife Marilyn, and it was to honor his late father, who went to NC State and studied textiles. The gift covers senior‑year loans for 176 undergraduate and 26 graduate students. After he announced the gift, Anil got a standing ovation. (Here’s the speech.)
