The Netherlands is fighting cigarette butt litter by turning them into CURRENCY. One company is accepting cigarette butts as payment for a plate of “poffertjes,” which are small Dutch pancakes usually eaten with a LOT of butter and sugar. The butts are bucks at a place called the “WasteBar.” Poffertjes can be bought for 20 cigarette butts . . . drinks are 10 . . . and fruits and candies are 15. They also accept plastic: 15 pieces for a poffertje…………. A senior living community in Boise, Idaho is giving residents the chance to experience bike rides again using a stable three-wheel version pedaled by caregivers. They call it the “Blessing Bike.” The program allows seniors with limited mobility to enjoy the outdoors again, and residents say the rides bring back wonderful memories from the past and provide them with some freedom they thought they had lost. A homeless veteran in Texas was forced to leave his dog outside a fire station with a heartfelt letter asking for help. Firefighters cared for the dog and, also stepped in to help the veteran rebuild his life. They even hooked the man up with a donated RV. The dog was adopted by the fire station and quickly became part of the crew, and the veteran received assistance with housing and medical needs. It’s a win for everyone. (Here’s a news report.)
