ESPN writer Roberto José Andrade Franco recently visited L.A. restaurant Langer’s Deli . . . but when he left, he couldn’t remember if he tipped his waitress or not. So, he wrote a letter to the owner, along with $50, explaining what the waitress looked like, and the deli tracked her down. Roberto was a busboy growing up and couldn’t stand the thought of possibly stiffing the server………….. More than 20 million river herring returned to rivers in Maine last year, which is the largest migration in decades . . . and a major success story for conservation. The species was once pushed to the brink by dam construction and overfishing . . . but because of the conservation efforts, now the population is thriving. The fish play a vital role in Maine by bringing ocean nutrients inland and providing food for a wide range of wildlife. Which makes sense, since the Native American name for the river herring translates to “the fish that feeds all.”………………..And finally…………………
A RI family was excited about their new farm stand called K’s Bakestand – the owner had spent months building it so his wife could sell her homemade bread, but unfortunately, the stand was stolen on the first day. The woman posted about it online, and a local company, Adams Construction, came to the rescue. They used the original blueprints to recreate the stand and then built it FOR FREE. John and Casey Adams said the project was never about recognition. It was simply about helping neighbors. (Here’s a news report.)
