Professional women’s baseball is back in the U.S. for the first time since 1954 . . . and 99-year-old former player Maybelle Blair helped launch it. Maybelle, who pitched in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in 1948, threw out the ceremonial pitch last month before the new Women’s Professional Baseball League’s first game. Maybelle called it “the happiest day” of her life. The league opened with four teams and a 30-game season…………….In 2018, an Irish father of three was given a 5% chance of walking again after he was left paralyzed from the rib cage down, but now he’s walking 3,000 miles across America on foot. Fergus Farrell went through months of rehab to learn to walk again. Fergus kicked off his journey at the Brooklyn Bridge and plans to reach the Santa Monica Pier in 75 days. He expects to take about 80,000 steps a day as he crosses 11 states to get out west, and he’s raising money for the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation in Ireland…………..And finally…………..
Florida teens Aashrita Kaza and her brother Anish created an app called Pizza for a Purpose, that aims to fight food insecurity. The app, currently available for iPhones, lets people send fresh pizzas from local restaurants directly to charities in their communities. The siblings came up with the idea after volunteering and seeing people of all ages struggle to get enough food. Since launching the app two years ago, it has helped deliver around 25,000 slices of pizza.
