Run For The Warriors is a race series open to civilians and military members that honors the men and women injured in service to our country after 9/11, their families and families of the fallen. The series also provides wounded service members encouragement and the opportunity to pursue the sport of running, walking or cycling to assist in physical and emotional rehabilitation.
Post-9/11 wounded service members and Gold Star families receiving Hope For The Warriors services all register for free. Discounts are available for active-duty service members, veterans and students. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org for discount codes by March 27. For a guaranteed Run For The Warriors t-shirt online registration must be completed by March 16.
“It’s hard to imagine that this is the 15th anniversary of the Jacksonville Run,” said Robin Kelleher, co-founder and president of the nonprofit organization. “This is the event that led to the creation of Hope For The Warriors. At the time, the men and women returning home with injuries weren’t greeted with parades and ceremonies, and we wanted an event that celebrated those injured and all they overcame as they healed.
“At the first Run For The Warriors and every HOPE race since, we celebrate the First Mile to symbolize the first steps of an injured warrior’s road to recovery. The First Mile represents resiliency and remembrance. We line the first mile of each course with photos honoring those military members who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving.”
New this year to the series is its go green initiative incorporating environmentally friendly items and practices such as finisher tokens and awards made from natural materials, water stops using large recyclable containers of water to use with gifted reusable water bottles and more.
