Hurricane Preparedness Expo in Jacksonville

Hurricane Preparedness Expo in Jacksonville

An outlook to the busiest time of the Hurricane Season and local preparedness advice will be offered in a City of Jacksonville special event, 6PM, Thursday, August 15, 2019.

The Hurricane Preparedness Awareness event is designed for those who might have just moved into the area, and those who want to be better informed about the remainder of the hurricane season and City of Jacksonville responses and resources. The event will be held in the Community Room at the City of Jacksonville Center for Public Safety, 200 Marine Boulevard.

Tom Lonka, a Meteorologist with the Newport office of the National Weather Service, will present on the current hurricane season and reflect on Florence. A discussion will involve avoiding the concept of category alone when considering the damage from a hurricane. Representatives of City of Jacksonville Police, as well as Fire & Emergency Services will discuss preparedness for new residents and experienced ones. City representatives will also discuss how to stay connected with information sources during a storm. Other representatives will be available to discuss hurricane preparedness for our community.

The event is expected to take about an hour and afterwards, residents can ask questions of the participants and other expert staff that will be present.
