WSFL Rocks JOY Soup Kitchen

JOY Soup Kitchen is doing great work in Greenville!

Cindy Miller recently got the chance to join the crew at JOY to prepare and serve lunch, and to hear stories of how they’re growing and changing to meet the needs of the community. They just launched a brand new website, and this is their mission statement: Our primary focus is to deal with food insecurity by providing meals to the poor and homeless in the community. We are the only place in Greenville that prepares and serves free, nutritious, hot midday & evening meals to address this essential need. Our patrons represent people from all demographics as we do not discriminate based on race, age, and ethnicity, or underlying health conditions.  For some, this may be their only meal of the day.

They’re not only offering food, they’re also offering a support system and fellowship to those who need it most. There are many ways that you can help:

Monetary donations: JOY uses funds not only to purchase food, but also to upgrade the building and facilities to better serve the community. They often post their needs on their Facebook page. They post a lot of videos and updates on FB, and they’re quite informative and entertaining too.

Donate food: Large, commercial size cans and jars are best; boxes of small snacks that can fit in lunch bags;, fresh produce, vegetables and meats. Everything is appreciated.

Volunteer: You, your co-workers, church or organization can sign up to help cook and serve. All volunteers must be willing to have fun!

Support them: JOY hosts fundraisers, like their soup sales, which you can find out about on their Facebook page, and they also benefit from other groups in the community.
