Fishing Report 8-29-22

The best time of the year to fish is upon us.  In a few weeks the Jumbo spots will show up so you might want to start scouting around for blood worms at your favorite tackle shop.  The inshore fishing is great right now with Spanish mackerel hitting gotcha plugs and Clark spoons.  Also there’s plenty of good catches of flounder, croakers, red drum, black drum, sheepshead, speckled trout and sea mullet.

Off shore the bottom fishing is great with grouper, snapper, trigger fish and black sea bass.  Plus the kings, wahoo, and tuna are hitting.

Fresh water fishing is pretty good to with cat fish fishing in the Neuse and Trent Rivers using gulp dough balls, and night crawlers.

Personally speaking, the writer of this report has caught bass near sunset on whopper ploppers, and hula poppers.  He’s even been seen fishing in a shirt and tie at Martin Marietta Park in New Bern – don’t tell the boss.

The bluegill fishing is good on crickets and worms.  Be sure to take a kid fishing.  Pick up your trash and remember, it’s always ok to call in sick to go fishing.
