Eleanor Coffee, a Florida Jersey Mike’s employee, recently helped rescue a woman who was being held against her will.  She found a crumpled-up piece of paper in the bathroom that looked like trash, but it was a “help me” note.  It had an address on it and asked whoever found it to please call the cops.  Eleanor and her manager called 911 – the police showed up at the address, rescued the woman, and arrested 34-year-old Jordan Williams.  They say he’s had at least two domestic violence incidents before, but it sounds like he’s going away for a long time after this one……. If you want a “chatty cat,” think about a rescue instead of a purebred.  A new study found there’s a specific gene that makes cats purr and vocalize a lot and mixed-breed cats and strays are more likely to have it.  Researchers think they’ve evolved to, because it makes us love them more……………..And finally………….. 

A FL elementary school principal has been incentivizing kids to do well in school by punishing himself. Matt Dyer, the principal at Pinecrest Elementary, about 30 miles outside Fort Myers, starts each year by promising to do something crazy if students hit different goals.  He’s slept on the roof of the school . . . been slimed . . . and let them hit him in the face with pies. This year, he promised to jump out of a PLANE if they crushed an accelerated reading challenge, which they did.  He says his wife wasn’t thrilled, but he went skydiving last month and filmed it for his students.
