Gilson Lavis, Squeeze Drummer Who Played With Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, And Dolly Parton, Dies At 74
Gilson Lavis, the renowned drummer for Squeeze and later a member of Jools Holland’s Rhythm and Blues Orchestra, has died at 74. Born in Bedfordshire, England, in 1951, Lavis began his music career touring with legends like Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Dolly Parton. He joined Squeeze in 1976, replacing the band’s original drummer Paul Gunn, and he played on all their classic albums from their 1978 self-titled debut through 1991’s Play, while contributing to the band’s biggest hits, such as “Cool for Cats,” “Tempted,” and “Black Coffee in Bed.” After leaving Squeeze in 1992 amid a personal struggle with alcoholism, he reunited with former bandmate Jools Holland, performing with his orchestra. Later in life, Lavis pursued painting, finding peace in art while continuing to perform music with passion. His death was announced by Holland on Facebook on Thursday (November 6), with the singer/pianist calling Lavis “my dear friend and long-standing drummer,” while also expressing his condolences to everyone in the music community who worked with him, as well as sending his “love and sympathy to Nikki and Gilson, his dear wife and son.” (Consequence of Sound)

Morrissey Cancels All Of His Remaining 2025 Concerts Due To “Extreme Exhaustion”
Morrissey has canceled all remaining dates on his 2025 tour due to “extreme exhaustion,” which includes his entire South American tour that was scheduled to begin on Saturday (November 8). These cancellations follow the former Smiths frontman previously scrapping his two recent shows in Mexico – a Halloween night performance in Mexico City and a November 4 gig in Zapopan – for the same reason. Organizers of the five planned concerts across Buenos Aires, Sao Paulo, Santiago, Lima, and Bogota informed fans of the cancellations and ticket refunds, with reports also noting the Bogota concert organizers claimed “the event did not receive the necessary support or audience.” Morrissey has remained silent on social media about the cancellations, with the singer having canceled or postponed 22 performances in 2025 alone. Moz’s next scheduled shows are part of a North American tour in January 2026 that are making up for previously canceled dates from early 2025. (Rolling Stone)

Following Ozzy Osbourne’s death in July 2025, the heavy metal icon made a significant impact on TouchTunes’ Q3 charts, debuting at No. 2 on the TouchTunes Artists Chart, behind only country music superstar Morgan Wallen. This marked Osbourne’s first appearance since the charts’ inception, driven by three songs on the TouchTunes Catalog Chart: “Mama, I’m Coming Home” at No. 3, “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath at No. 21, and “No More Tears” at No. 24. Wolfgang Van Halen Responds To David Lee Roth’s “This F**kin’ Kid” Diss, Declaring “I’m Not A Kid”
On the latest episode of the Rolling Stone Music Now podcast, Wolfgang Van Halen addressed David Lee Roth’s 2024 YouTube rant that insulted him and dismissed him as “this fu**in’ kid.” Without naming Roth directly, Wolfgang called the two-hour monologue of unfounded accusations, including claims of nepotism and misbehavior, totally unwarranted, while adding, “I’ve always been a punching bag. It is just whatever…. I’m a 34-year-old married man with a third album. I’m not a kid.” Wolfgang also confirmed tensions between Roth and Alex Van Halen over failed Van Halen reunion plans, which stems from DLR not wanting to pay tribute to Eddie Van Halen during the shows. “Unfortunately, some people just can’t get it working,” Wolfgang said in reference to Roth. Wolfgang is currently touring in support of his new Mammoth album, The End, which debuted in the Top 20 of Billboard’s Top Rock & Alternative Albums and Independent Albums charts following its release on October 24. Former Guns N’ Roses Manager Sues Band Over Claims They Are Preventing Publication Of His Memoir
Former Guns N’ Roses manager Alan Niven is suing the band over their efforts to block the publication of his memoir, Sound N’ Fury: Rock N’ Roll Stories. Niven is arguing that a confidentiality clause in an old buyout agreement – which the band claims the book violates – is void because not all band members, including Axl Rose, signed it. Niven alleges that Guns N’ Roses members, including Slash, Duff McKagan, and Rose, have themselves breached the agreement by making inflammatory remarks about him, and that he was under severe distress when signing the buyout, which he claims was unfair. Despite prior encouragement from band members to write the book, the group sent a cease-and-desist to his publisher, delaying the memoir’s release, which is now scheduled for 2026. Niven seeks a legal judgment declaring the agreement unenforceable and claims breach of contract and interference with contract. (Rolling Stone)

Paul McCartney Apparently Sent Baby Poo To Music Journalist After Bad Review
Paul McCartney once sent baby poo to a deceitful music journalist who falsely reviewed a Wings concert he never attended, as revealed by drummer Denny Seiwell in the new oral history book, Wings: The Story of a Band on the Run. The journalist had claimed he was only writing about the band’s family life on tour, but later published a scathing review critiquing their live performance even though he flew home before the show. To retaliate, Seiwell claims that, “Paul and Linda took one of those little plastic soap dishes from the hotel we were in and they got one of Stella’s turds, put it in the soap dish, wrapped it up and sent it to him.” Seiwell called the shocking gesture a “perfect response to a crude British pressman." The book, which was published on Tuesday (November 4), includes many anecdotes, photos, and contributions from the band and their circle, and coincides with the upcoming release of a Wings music anthology personally overseen by McCartney. Donna Jean Godchaux-MacKay, the beloved vocalist who sang with the Grateful Dead throughout the 1970s and contributed backup vocals on iconic ’60s hits by Elvis Presley and Percy Sledge, has died at 78 after a long battle with cancer. Joining the Grateful Dead in 1971 with her husband Keith, she became a distinctive part of the band’s classic era, appearing on landmark albums like Europe ’72, Wake of the Flood, and Terrapin Station, and countless legendary live recordings including the fan-favorite Cornell ’77 performance and the Dead’s memorable shows at the Giza pyramid in Egypt in 1978.
