Newport Fire Chief Benny Whitley wanted everyone to come out, have a good time, and bring their families to Newport Community Park on Saturday 10/16 for the 3rd Annual Newport Fireman’s Day, an event that hadn’t happened since 2019 due to the pandemic. The event started at 10am with all kinds of activities, interaction with firefighters, and bucket brigade races. Kids were allowed to spray the fire hoses, climb around the fire trucks, and have first hand instruction on doing rapid dress with turnout gear. The Newport Pig Cooking Association was on hand to handle food again this year, as were the Two Crazy Doughnuts food truck and Mr. Cool’s Ice. Shortway Brewing and Brutopia were on tap to handle the beer garden. Chief Whitley and the Newport Fire Department’s mascot, Sparky, mingled with the crowd and took pictures, ensuring everyone was having a wonderful time and enjoying the perfect weather alongside their much appreciated first responders!
