Today’s Good News 9-26-23

This story has been all over the news. A two-year-old girl in northern Michigan went missing last week after she wandered off into the woods with her family’s dog.  But she’s okay after someone found her five hours later near a trail three miles away. The dog stayed with her the whole time.  The girl was sleeping and using it as a pillow when they got there, and it even growled at them when they tried to touch her to wake her up.……………. “The Guardian” newspaper did a big profile on a golden retriever named Max, who just finished up his first year as the MAYOR of Idyllwild, California.  They have a long history of electing dogs. His owner . . . who’s also his chief of staff . . . dresses him up for work.  She says he owns 1,000 neckties, and ate three of them during his first month in office. …………And finally……………

An animal charity called Draw for Paws recently launched a new program called “Grandpaws” . . . P-A-W-S . . . to help older pets get adopted from shelters.  They’re having people in retirement homes paint pictures of them, and posting them online. The project started in 2018 when 8-year-old animal shelter volunteer Chwatko decided to combine her passion for art and animals by drawing portraits of people’s pets for a $20 donation to an animal rescue. Today, the project includes over 75 artists, whose work has generated tens of thousands of dollars for shelter animals and has helped Draw for Paws grow even bigger, expanding to include projects like the Grandpaws Initiative.
