OK resident Reed Marcum was 11 when he asked for donations of toys for a giveaway that he’d decided to do as a 4-H project. That was 7 years ago, and now he’s a university freshman, but still drives two-and-a-half hours home to participate in the annual toy drive. 10K toys are slated to be handed out this year in a drive-through event, where kids point out to their parents which toy they like the most. Each kid also gets a variety of clothing. 54K toys have been given out to date, and Reed’s activities have raised more than $3.5 million.
