Sam Perkins’ parents are in their 70s and live just outside of Asheville. After Helene, he hadn’t heard from them for 48 hours, so he filled a backpack with supplies and started the 11 mile, 3.5-hour trek to get to them. He said “I can’t tell you how many landslides and collapsed roads and trees I had to cross to get to them. And so, I kind of got more and more worried the more that I went up, because it just got worse and worse.” Her finally made it, and discovered they were okay, so after an emotional reunion, Perkins decided to head back home, because he didn’t want to use up any of his parents’ food or supplies……………Speaking of the hurricane, Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper announced he and his wife Nicole donated an initial $3 million through their foundation to help with relief efforts in North and South Carolina……..And finally………….
SC dad David Jones walked 30 miles to get to his daughter’s wedding in TN over the weekend. It was supposed to be a 2 hour drive, but roads were blocked by flooding from Hurricane Helene. He told first responders he encountered that he HAD to be there at 11am to walk her down the aisle, so he hoofed it for 5.5 hours. He had to climb over debris, and got stuck in knee-deep mud at one point. He made it about 20 miles before someone picked him up and drove him the rest of the way. He didn’t fill his daughter in on what happened until the reception.
